Role Overview: 

The Health, Safety & Environment Manager is based out of the Edmonton head office and central distribution center supporting up to 22 branch locations across Western Canada.  The position reports directly to the Director of Operations.

Responsible for the development, implementation and on-going coordination of the Health, Safety, and Environmental program for the Organization.  

Responsibilities will include setting corporate direction and leading employees in safety management best practices, assisting with hazard identification and the development of safe work procedures, working to reduce injuries and workers compensation costs, leading incident investigations, and conducting and coordinating safety inspections.

The HSE Manager will participate in “best practice” sessions with other operating companies, providing and accepting guidance as appropriate.

The HSE Manager has access to and must keep confidential any information relating to individuals, processes or business intelligence within the organization and information shared at the Management/Executive level.

Position Skills and Knowledge required:

Supervisory position where employee works independently on general assignments.  Position may be required to co-ordinate various related activities or work units.  Reporting to supervisor largely accomplished by results.  Employee refers matters concerning policy change to supervisor as well as the leadership team and executive.

Regularly changing situations requiring analysis and evaluation to determine action and solution to problems.

Co-ordinates a major function of the organization.

Makes decisions affecting entire function and may affect other functions.

Requires frequent application of original and independent thinking in originating and developing complex methods, systems, techniques, products or ideas to respond to a highly variable, and undefined technical competitive or operating environment; or involves frequent independent thinking and resourcefulness to direct a major operation, activity, or project

Must understand priorities and make decisions based on the short term and long term needs of the company.
